Coaching for Business Results

Using the Work to Build the Worker

The past few years have seen an explosion of interest in executive coaching. Many companies have recognized that using outside coaching in certain situations can deliver exceptional value.

However, we believe that the greatest opportunity for an effective coach lies in the day-to-day work setting between a manager and his or her direct reports. It is within the context of actually getting things done (or not) that one’s skills or the lack of are most apparent, and that a teachable spirit is generally present. In such a setting, performance feedback arrived just in time for a “coachable moment.”

Yet many opportunities are lost because some executives and managers today have never been taught the skill of coaching for performance improvements or in correcting performance problems. This workshop will expose participants to the potential impact of coaching on the job and the principles of using the work to develop the worker. Participants will be strengthened in the principles, process, and pitfalls of coaching as a part of their day-to-day activities. They will learn how to diagnose performance problems and to develop a creative plan to address them.

This full-day workshop is packed with a presentation, discussion, exercises, case studies, and powerful diagnostics that will help participants discover their unique coaching style.

In this workshop participants will:

  • Discover the benefits of becoming a coach as part of their day-to-day management role.
  • Learn the principles, processes, and pitfalls of coaching individuals in their talent pool.
  • Use a powerful coaching model to diagnose the root causes of performance problems and craft creative solutions to address them.
  • Master an important model that shows managers how to adapt their coaching style to specific readiness levels of individual workers.
